Preview of the Qumely College Assignment Tracker

This is a practical .xlsx assignment tracker for college or university students who want one master list plus a weekly action view.

It includes:

  • Master Assignments
  • Weekly View
  • Lists & Settings
  • Worked Example
  • Printable Week
  • source and verification fields
  • explicit TBD handling
  • changed-deadline tracking
  • optional weight, effort, priority, start date, completion date, and recurring fields

There is no signup requirement in the resource itself.

What to do first

  1. Open Lists & Settings and replace the sample course names with your courses.
  2. Go to Master Assignments.
  3. Add one row per assignment, quiz, lab, project, midterm, final, or other academic task.
  4. Record the source of the information.
  5. Leave the due date blank and mark the due time/date field TBD when the date is not confirmed.
  6. Pick a Monday in Weekly View to see that week, overdue incomplete work, and undated/TBD items.

The Master Assignments sheet is the workbook's source of truth. Weekly View is a filtered action layer.

The essential fields

FieldPurpose
CourseSeparates work across classes
Assignment / TaskNames the obligation
Type / CategoryAssignment, quiz, project, exam, etc.
Due DateCurrent confirmed date
Due Time / TBDKeeps time and uncertainty explicit
StatusNot Started, In Progress, Completed, or Cancelled
Official Source / LinkLets you re-check the information
Verification StatusVerified, Unverified, or Needs Check
NotesClarification or context

Those fields are enough to run the core tracker.

The workbook also includes optional planning fields:

  • Weight / Grade Impact
  • Estimated Effort
  • Priority
  • Start Date
  • Completion Date
  • Recurring?
  • Previous Due Date

These are optional because students do not always know the weight or effort in advance.

Master Assignments vs. Weekly View

Master Assignments

Use this for the complete cross-course record.

The formula columns calculate:

  • Changed? — compares Current Due Date with Previous Due Date.
  • Days Remaining — current due date minus today's date.
  • Week Start — the Monday of the due-date week.
  • Overdue? — marks a dated incomplete task after its due date.

Weekly View

Choose a Monday.

The view pulls:

  • tasks due during that week;
  • overdue incomplete tasks;
  • tasks with no confirmed due date.

That last part matters.

A TBD task should not disappear simply because it cannot yet be placed on the calendar.

How changed dates work

Suppose ECON Problem Set 3 was originally due October 8.

The instructor moves it to October 9.

Enter:

  • Current Due Date: Oct. 9
  • Previous Due Date: Oct. 8

The Changed? field marks the task as CHANGED.

This does not claim to sync automatically with your course sources. You still maintain the workbook from the official course information.

Worked example included

The workbook contains an example using five courses:

  • CSCI 4140
  • CSCI 4177
  • ECON 1101
  • HIST 2200
  • MATH 2030

The example includes:

  • a changed deadline;
  • a recurring assignment;
  • a TBD research proposal;
  • major and minor assessments;
  • optional weights and effort estimates;
  • two different courses with similarly named quizzes.

Use the example to understand the structure, then enter your own coursework in Master Assignments.

What about priority?

The template deliberately does not calculate an objectively correct next task.

Priority is a student-entered field.

Weight and estimated effort are available because they can be useful planning inputs, but the workbook does not claim that a formula can determine the scientifically optimal order of your assignments.

Can I use it outside Excel?

The provided resource is an .xlsx workbook.

You can try importing it into another spreadsheet application, but formulas, dropdowns, filtering, and print behavior should be rechecked after conversion. The QA for this release applies to the .xlsx file provided here.

Why the template includes source and verification fields

University planning resources commonly recommend centralizing important academic dates and moving between semester and weekly planning views.[1][2] The source and verification fields are Qumely's additional planning layer: they make it easier to re-check a task when course information changes.
